market stand Real Food, Naturally: A Walk a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

by Glen Boudreaux, Jolie Vue Farms

So let's combine that apple with a walk. Here's the news.

After a heavy meal, especially one that is fat-laden, such as pizza, Mexican food, or Alfredo sauce, blood vessel function can be impaired for up to six hours as the meal works through your system. (This is one of the reasons that cardiologists advise cardiac patients to eat lightly.) But, if the meal was followed by a brisk walk, vessel dilation was significantly improved.

The study relied on was on young people, and the "walk" was 45 minutes and "brisk". That's a little long and fast for me, but a casual 20-30 minute walk after dinner seems to make a difference for me at a more advanced age. I go to bed later feeling lighter, and ready for a good sleep.

Try it - it can't hurt you, and probably does some good.

Yours in the local harvest, 1000s of miles fresher,
Glen Boudreaux
