Real Food, Naturally: Back to Our Roots

The health news buzz for the last week is all about the Brits, Japanese, and almost all of Europe, living longer, healthier lives than Americans at half of the health care cost spent by Americans. The French eat the most fat laden diet in the western world, consume the spirits daily, and even smoke more than we do, but have a significantly lower rate of heart disease and a longer life span than we do. This seems to befuddle our industrialized society.
I want to add my observations to this "mystery". My wife and I have made brief visits to the British Isles, Italy, France and Switzerland over the last 10 years. We always look forward to driving out into the countryside as well as visiting the famous cities. What was a common sight there that you seldom see here? A profusion of back yard vegetable gardens, orchards and bustling farmers markets. Our brethren in western society have never given up on the idea that fresh, local food in season is the way to eat. That's not to say that they have not also industrialized their food model as well - they have - it is just to say they still eat where their food is grown, often growing it themselves, but buying it from their local farmers when they cannot grow their own. Shopping at the farmers market is routine rather than an exception.
Help solve this apparent mystery of life - shop and eat where your food is grown.
Experience the ecstasy of fresh, wholesome food.
Put a farmer's face on your food.
It's "thousands of miles fresher", and it's available at your Houston Farmers Market.
