 FRESH MARKET NEWS

FIRST AN APOLOGY AND A CORRECTION: The wrong issue of the news was just sent out!! Please accept my sincerest apologies - I was looking at the previous issue and accidentally sent it instead!!

This is the correct issue! Again, I apologize.

There will be a reduced crop of peaches all over the state of Texas this year due to several factors. We had several freezes during bloom set and fruit set. Several hail and wind storms really hit the Hill Country peaches this year. Statewide estimates are only a 20% to 30% crop of peaches this year. So if you want peaches get 'em early, 'cause the later the crop, the less likelihood of peaches!

Gundermann Farms was blessed with no hail or freezes, so we will have peaches, but hurry, because we have all early varieties and they are all coming in three weeks earlier than normal.

Strawberries will be in just a few more weeks, so get them while they are ripe.

Nawara Farms has some beautiful baby red new potatoes, green beans and yellow wax beans.

Lots of squashes are also showing up, so summer is here early for all the farmers.

Hydroponic tomatoes are finishing up, so get ready for fresh field tomatoes. We are looking at 2 to 3 weeks before field tomatoes should be coming in.

On Tuesdays, visit us in the parking lot of CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH, in Rice Village, 2353 Rice Blvd at Greenbriar. Tuesday hours are 4 PM til 7 PM, every week!

On Saturdays, you'll find us behind ONION CREEK CAFE at 3106 White Oak Drive between Heights Blvd and Studemont, in the Heights. We're there from 8 AM til noon or til sold out - whichever comes first!! Come early for the best pickings!
