Know What To Buy At A Farmer’s Market

A farmer’s market is a great place to pick up fresh meat, produce, flowers, and other locally-sourced products. Since they tend to be very large and can sometimes be overwhelming, it can be helpful to follow some guidelines when it comes to making purchases at a farmer’s market. First, think about what produce you need for the week. Since produce is at the peak of freshness at a farmer’s market, you will want to use what you buy right away. Consider stocking up on vegetables or fruits that keep well, such as potatoes, squash, and apples, and buy smaller amounts of lettuce, berries, and other things that tend to spoil more quickly.

When purchasing meat, think about your storage space and needs. You may find that you get a better price on a large amount of meat than if you buy just one or two portions. If you have a deep freezer, consider stocking up on fresh, local beef or poultry.

A farmer’s market is a great place to try something new. Ask the vendors about an unfamiliar fruit or vegetable and find out how they like to prepare it. Farmer’s markets offer a wonderful opportunity to try something new!
